High Power Rifle
Douglas Ridge Rifle Club is the premier Known Distance Rifle Range within the State of Oregon. We have built up concrete berms at the 200, 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, and 1000-yard firing lines. The range is surrounded by beautiful trees and sprawling grass, making it a very appealing place to shoot. The DRRC Long Distance range can accommodate all of the various courses of fire used by the NRA and the CMP Highpower Rifle events.
Most matches follow the current NRA formats including Across the Course, Mid-Range Prone, and Long Range Prone. Across the course includes Standing Slow Fire at 200 yards, Sitting or Kneeling Rapid Fire at 200 yards, Prone Rapid Fire at 300 yards, and Prone Slow Fire at 600 yards. These events may also be conducted using reduced targets at lesser distances.
Mid-Range Prone is fired at 300, 500, and 600 yards with 20 shots slow fire prone at each distance. This can also be fired with 3, 20 shot strings all from the 600-yard line. Long Range prone is a combination of firing from the 800, 900, and 1000-yard firing lines or may be all fired at 1000 yards. All courses of fire are used during the season. CMP Excellence in Competition matches are held in conjunction with the State Championships hosted by DRRC.
Depending on the type of event, competitors may use different types of rifles. During Across the Course events, competitors may use a “Match Rifle” (bolt action of semi auto) with unlimited optics, or a ‘U.S. Service Rifle’ with optics not to exceed 4.5 power. Mid-Range events may use the Match Rifle, Service Rifle, F-Class Rifle, or specialized long-range rifles, some with rests. The same rifles may be used in Long Range Events.
Pit duty is not required during tournaments at Douglas Ridge. The Shotmarker Electronic Target System is now used. Competitors will need a smartphone or tablet with Wi-Fi capability to see their hits and scores.
