Black Powder Muzzleloader

Come and join our monthly shoot in the tradition of 1830’s Fur Trader Rendezvous. Originally, there were meetings of fur trading companies and trappers to sell and trade the furs that they trapped all winter. It was a time to celebrate with games and contests.

We celebrate this history by hosting monthly events with a trail shoot of the fur trader rendezvous, using flintlock and percussion muzzleloading rifles and pistols of the pre-1840 period. Our weapons fire round ball bullets and have open sights.

The targets are set up for fun shooting, with lots of steel critters, gongs, knock-overs, spinners, and a “running” bear. We also enjoy other fun historical activities, such as ball splitting on an axe head, cutting playing cards or string in half, wood cookies, feathers, and whatever we can find to keep it fun.

We also shoot primitive archery at gunny sack critters, throw tomahawks and knives into log rounds, set a beaver trap, enjoy a chili feed for lunch, and draw for prizes. Be sure to bring the family, including the kids.

The highlight event of our year is heading to a modern-day Rendezvous on Mt. Hood each summer. We join hundreds of folks and families camping, trading, and shooting in the forest.

Join us most months at the DRRC silhouette range on the third Saturdays. Our events are open to the public, so stop by and see what we’re all about.
