Our service rifle program is geared along the lines of the Civilian Marksmanship Program using military style service rifles (primarily the M1 Garand) with frequent practices, clinics, and matches. Our events consist of a training clinic on Saturday followed by match on Sunday. Matches are open to the public.
Club rifles, spotting scopes and mats are available for new shooters to use during the class/match. Due to the amount of rifles and equipment available, we are limited to 12 new shooters per clinic/match. Junior participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The training clinic is held in the club house from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on the Saturday of the scheduled service rifle match, clinic registration starts at 8:30 AM. New shooters must attend a training clinic prior to participating in their first match. The clinic will cover range safety, the operation of the M1 Garand rifle, proper use and adjustment of the sights and match procedures/scoring. All students will get to practice the different shooting positions (standing, sitting and prone) as well as the use of the sling as a support. Match registration starts Sunday morning at 7:30 AM, ends at 8:30 sharp, safety brief is at 8:50 and the match begins at 9:00. Matches usually wrap up at around 2:00 PM for 100 yard matches and 4:00 PM or later for matches involving target pits. Fees: Clinic Fee - $10.00 (includes the following days match). Match Fee - $10.00. Ammo for new shooters (adults) - $25.00 (for first year of Service Rifle match participation). Ammo for new shooters (juniors) - $15.00 Ammo Costs after first year: Ammo (30-06) - $40.00 for 500 aggregate match or $60.00 for 800 aggregate matches. Ammo (223) - $50.00 for 500 aggregate match or $75.00 for 800 aggregate matches. Note: (Ammo prices are current as of May 2023 and are subject to change depending on cost of replacement ammo). Club ammo is only sold for use in DRRC Service Rifle matches. Classes are geared towards the type of match being held the following day. Classes held prior to 100 yard matches are only good for our 100 yard reduced matches. Classes held prior to 200 yd or greater matches will be good for any subsequent match. You must take a 200 yard or 200/300/600 yard class before shooting in your first 200 or 200/300/600 yard match so you are familiar with scoring target in the pits. Pre-registration is recommended.
